Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Mercury Sable and 2003 Ford Taurus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Partially drain cooling system. See COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING  under COOLING SYSTEMS. Disconnect heater water hose. See Fig 1. Disconnect EVAP return tube, EVAP canister purge outlet tube and vacuum tube from EVAP canister purge valve. See FUEL VAPOR LINE CONNECTORS .
  2. Disconnect EVAP canister purge valve harness connector. Remove 2 nuts retaining EVAP canister purge valve and remove EVAP canister purge valve. See Fig 1.
  3. NOTE: Lubricate all "O" rings with MERPOL® "O" Ring Seal Lubricant or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESE-M99B144-B.
  4. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Ensure EVAP system does not leak. Perform after repair procedure. See AFTER REPAIR PROCEDURE .
