Removal & Installation (Without Valve Adapter Assembly)

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Mercury Sable and 2003 Ford Taurus. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Fuel Storage Tanker (D90P-9275-A) is required when this procedure is being used for fuel tank draining. See Figure.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Release fuel pressure. See FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE .
  2. Raise and support vehicle. Using suitable hose pinching pliers, clamp fuel tank filler hoses. See Fig 1. Loosen fuel tank filler pipe hose clamps and disconnect hoses from fuel tank filler pipes. See Fig 2.
  3. Disconnect fuel pump electrical connector.
  4. Disconnect fuel filter inlet hose. See FUEL FILTER . Disconnect vapor tube fitting. See FUEL VAPOR LINE CONNECTORS  under EMISSION SYSTEMS & SUB-SYSTEMS.
  5. Position a safety support under fuel tank. Remove 2 fuel tank support strap bolts. Partially lower fuel tank while swinging fuel tank support straps away from fuel tank. Position straps aside and carefully lower fuel tank. Remove fuel pump module. See FUEL PUMP MODULE . Using Fuel Storage Tanker, drain fuel tank through fuel pump module opening. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten fuel tank support strap bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
