Removal & Installation (5.4L)

NOTE: Numbers in parenthesis refer to numbers in illustrations.
  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. Remove the engine air cleaner, the air cleaner outlet tube and the accelerator splash shield. Disconnect the accelerator cable. Disconnect the speed control cable. Remove the throttle return spring.
  2. Remove the cable mounting bracket bolts. Position the cable mounting bracket aside. Disconnect the following at the intake manifold:
    • Power brake booster vacuum supply hose.
    • Main vacuum supply line.
    • Evaporative emissions canister purge valve hose.
  3. Disconnect the hose and electrical connector from the idle air control valve. Disconnect the throttle position sensor connector. Remove the two bolts retaining the vacuum transducer bracket to the intake manifold. See Figure. Position the bracket and transducer out of the way. Loosen the EGR tube nut (1), if equipped. See Fig 1. Disconnect the EGR tube (2). Disconnect the vacuum line from the EGR valve (3).
  4. If equipped, disconnect the EGR Vacuum Regulator (EVR) electrical connector and vacuum connector. Remove the 4 throttle body spacer bolts. See Fig 2. Remove the throttle body, throttle body spacer, EGR valve, EVR and IAC valve as an assembly. To install, reverse removal procedure.
