The Exhaust Pressure (EP) sensor is a variable capacitance sensor. A 5-volt reference signal from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is utilized by the EP sensor to produce a linear analog voltage signal indicating exhaust pressure. The PCM uses the EP sensor input to control the Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) and the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) systems.
An EP signal that is detected out of range (high or low) by PCM will cause engine to ignore EP signal and disable exhaust pressure operation. Perform this test when directed by QUICK TEST. This test is only intended to diagnose the following components and circuits:
- Exhaust Pressure (EP) Sensor
- Wiring Harness Circuits; (EP, SIG RTN & VREF)
- Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
