Test AU: Map/BARO Correlation: Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Ford Pickup, 2003 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2003 Ford F450 Super Duty, 2003 Ford Excursion, and 2003 Ford Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) harness connectors must be properly seated and the connector latch properly attached to eliminate possible driveability concerns or a no-start condition. Installing PCM connectors on an angle may cause a bad connection, misdiagnosis and damaged components. Install the connector on where the lever pivots and seats itself. Apply light pressure to get the connector into position on the PCM lever to fully seat the connector.
NOTE:
When the PCM engine harness connector is disconnected additional DTCs will be set. All DTCs must be cleared before returning the vehicle to service.
- 1) Preliminary Diagnosis For DTC P0069
Connect the scan tool. Retrieve and record all DTCs. Clear all DTCs. Perform the KOEO ON-DEMAND SELF-TEST and RETRIEVE/CLEAR CONTINUOUS MEMORY DTCS under QUICK TEST. Is DTC P0069 present along with other DTCs? If yes, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS . For DTC P0069 only, go to next step. If no, unable to duplicate concern. Road test vehicle and retest the system. - 2) DTC P0069
Possible causes are:- Faulty BARO sensor.
- Faulty MAP sensor.
- Faulty PCM.
Using scan tool, access BARO/MAP PIDs. Key on. Record BARO/MAP values. Check that the BARO/PID reading is approximately the same as the barometric pressure reading for the location, day and altitude where the vehicle is being serviced. Does the BARO PID reading compare with daily barometric report for service area? If yes, go to next step. If no, install a new BARO sensor. Restore the vehicle. Clear DTCs and retest the system.
- 3) Compare BARO KOER & KOEO Readings
Engine running. Using scan tool, access BARO PIDs. Compare engine BARO KOER reading with KOEO reading. Do PID values change when engine is running? If yes, install a new BARO sensor. Restore the vehicle. Clear DTCs and retest the system. If no, go to next step. - 4) Compare BARO/MAP Values
Engine running. Using scan tool, access BARO/MAP PIDs. Compare the BARO/MAP reading with KOEO values. Is the MAP sensor reading within 30 kPa of the BARO reading? If yes, install a new PCM. Restore the vehicle. Clear DTCs and retest the system. If no, check MAP sensor hose for damage. Replace the hose if a concern is found. If no hose concern is detected, install a new MAP sensor. Restore the vehicle. Clear DTCs and retest the system.
NOTE:
Most weather services report a local barometric pressure that has been corrected to factor in sea level. However, the BARO PID reports the barometric pressure for the vehicle's actual altitude. Local weather conditions (high or low pressure) will change the local barometric pressure by several inches of mercury.
