Test A: Vehicle Battery: Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Ford Pickup, 2003 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2003 Ford F450 Super Duty, 2003 Ford Excursion, and 2003 Ford Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE:
For additional testing information, see DIAGNOSTIC AIDS .
- 1) DTCs P0560, P0562 Or P0563: Check Battery Voltage
DTC P0562 may be a temporary condition at crank with a low battery condition. DTC P0563 may be a temporary condition with a 24-volt jump start. Turn ignition on. Using DVOM, measure voltage between battery terminals. Is voltage is more than 11 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, charge battery. - 2) Check PCM VPWR Fuse No. 22
Inspect PCM VPWR fuse No. 22 to verify it is not blown. Install a new fuse if necessary. Measure voltage from PCM VPWR fuse No. 22 and battery negative post. See Figure. Is the voltage greater than 10.5 V? If yes, go to step 6). If a new fuse was installed, restore the vehicle and retest the system. If no, go to next step. - 3) Check Supply Voltage To PCM Relay
Remove PCM relay and fuse. Key on, engine off. Check voltage from PCM relay power supply terminal No. 30 in CJB and battery negative post. Is the voltage greater than 10.5 V? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair open in PCM power supply circuit or fuse links. Restore the vehicle and retest the system. - 4) Check PCM Relay Coil Ground Circuit
Key off. Measure resistance from PCM relay coil ground terminal No. 85 in CJB and battery negative post. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair open in relay ground circuitry. Restore the vehicle and retest the system.NOTE: PCM diode is internal to CJB. - 5) Check PCM Relay Ignition Voltage Supply
Key on, engine off. Check voltage from PCM relay coil ignition voltage supply terminal No. 86 in CJB and battery negative post. Is the voltage greater than 10.5 V? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair open in ignition power circuit to PCM relay, fuse No. 116 or CJB. Restore the vehicle and retest the system. - 6) Check Circuit From PCM Fuse To PCM
Key off. Disconnect PCM body harness connector C1381A. Measure resistance between non-power side of PCM fuse No. 22 and PCM body harness connector C1381A terminals No. 34 and 46. See CONTROL MODULE CONNECTOR IDENTIFICATION . Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, repair open in circuit. Restore the vehicle. Clear DTCs and retest the system. - 7) Check Power Ground Continuity
Measure resistance between negative battery post and PCM body harness connector C1381A terminals No. 11 and 23. Is each resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, check PCM relay for correct operation. If relay is good and the fault code reappears, install a new PCM. Restore the vehicle and retest the system. If no, repair open in power ground circuit. Restore the vehicle and retest the system.
