Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal: Installation

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 9 other vehicles, including the 2003 Ford Pickup, 2003 Ford F550 Super Duty, 2003 Ford F450 Super Duty, 2003 Ford Excursion, and 2003 Ford Cab & Chassis. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: The crankshaft rear oil seal and wear sleeve are installed as an assembly.
  1. Apply RTV Silicone Sealant (F5TZ-19G204-AB) to the rear oil seal retaining ring and the crankshaft rear oil seal retaining bolts.
  2. Using the Driver Handle (205-153, T80T-4000-W) and the Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Service Set (303-S485, T94T-6701-AH), install the crankshaft rear oil seal. See Fig 1. Install and tighten crankshaft rear oil seal retaining bolts to specification. See Figure. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
  3. On vehicles equipped with an A/T, install the flexplate spacers and bolts. See FLEXPLATE . On vehicles equipped with an M/T, install the flexplate spacers and bolts. See FLYWHEEL .
  4. Install transmission. On vehicles equipped with an A/T, see appropriate REMOVAL & INSTALLATION article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. On vehicles equipped with an M/T, CLUTCHES article for 2002 models or MANUAL TRANSMISSION for 2003 models.
