Pinpoint Test C: The Power Seat Moves But Is Loose

  1. C1 CHECK THE SEAT FASTENING HARDWARE 
    • Check the seat fastening hardware.
    • Is the seat fastening hardware loose? 
    • Yes  : TIGHTEN all fastening hardware to specifications. TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : GO to C2.
  2. C2 CHECK THE SEAT TRACK 
    WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards.
    NOTE: If a seat equipped with a supplemental restraint system (SRS) component is being serviced, the SRS must be depowered.  Refer to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
    NOTE: The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the RCM fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.
    NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
    • Disconnect the affected seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3133 (driver) or C3134 (passenger).
    • Connect restraint system diagnostic tool 418-133 to the affected seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3133 (driver) or C3134 (passenger).
    • WARNING: Be sure that nobody is in the vehicle and that there is nothing blocking or set in front of any air bag module when the battery ground cable is connected.
    • Connect the battery ground cable.
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Remove the affected seat. Refer to FRONT SEAT .
    • NOTE: Driver seat shown, passenger seat similar.
    • Check the inboard seat track fore/aft adjustment screw.
      • While holding the front height pivot shaft, pull on the seat track front inboard mounting foot while inspecting the inboard fore/aft adjustment screw for movement.

    • NOTE: Driver seat shown, passenger seat similar.
    • Check the outboard seat track fore/aft adjustment screw.
      • While holding the front height pivot shaft, pull on the seat track front outboard mounting foot while inspecting the outboard fore/aft adjustment screw for movement.

    • Does either fore/aft adjustment screw have movement in and out of the bracket? 
    • Yes  : GO to C3.
    • No  : INSPECT the seat for any other causes and REPAIR as necessary. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3133 or passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3134. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3133 or passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3134. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
  3. C3 INSTALL FORE/AFT SEAT TRACK ADJUSTMENT SCREW CLIPS 
    NOTE: If there is movement only at 1 adjustment screw, install a clip at both adjustment screws.
    • Install a clip, as shown in Fig 3, at the inboard fore/aft adjustment screw between the bracket and the worm gear housing. The clip tabs must be facing upwards.
      • Make sure the clip does not hang down past the bracket or it will hit the seat track when moved.

    • Install a clip, as shown in Fig 4, at the outboard fore/aft adjustment screws between the bracket and the worm gear housing. The clip tabs must be facing upwards.
      • Make sure the clip does not hang down past the bracket or it will hit the seat track when moved.

    • Is there any play at either fore/aft adjustment screw? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new seat track. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3133 or passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3134. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3133 or passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3134. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
    • No  : INSTALL the seat. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3133 or passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3134. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3133 or passenger seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3134. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM .
