Pinpoint Test S: The Fog Lamps Are Inoperative

  1. S1 CHECK THE HEADLAMPS HIGH BEAM OPERATION 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Place the headlamp switch in the headlamps ON position.
    • Place the multifunction switch in the high beam, then low beam positions.
    • Do the headlamp high beams operate correctly? 
    • Yes  : TURN the headlamp switch OFF. GO to S2.
    • No  : REFER to HEADLAMPS  to continue diagnosis of the high beams.
  2. S2 CHECK THE FOG LAMP RELAY 
    • Disconnect: Fog Lamp Relay C1007.
    • Carry out the fog lamp relay component test. Refer to COMPONENT TESTING article.
    • Is the relay OK? 
    • Yes  : GO to S3.
    • No  : INSTALL a new fog lamp relay. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. S3 CHECK FOR CIRCUIT 12 (LG/BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: BJB Fuse 44 (15A).
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the BJB fuse 44 (15A), circuit 12 (LG/BK), input side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL the fuse. GO to S4.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. S4 CHECK CIRCUIT 462 (VT) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the voltage between the fog lamp relay C1007-3, circuit 462 (VT), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to S5.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. S5 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE ON CIRCUIT 477 (LB/BK) 
    • Place the headlamp switch in the headlamps ON position and engage the fog lamp switch.
    • Measure the voltage between the fog lamp relay C1007-1, circuit 477 (LB/BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to  S8.
    • No  : GO to S6.
  6. S6 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH 
    • Turn the headlamp switch OFF.
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Headlamp Switch C205a.
    • Carry out the headlamp switch component test. Refer to COMPONENT TESTING article.
    • Is the headlamp switch OK? 
    • Yes  : GO to S7.
    • No  : INSTALL a new headlamp switch. REFER to HEADLAMP SWITCH . TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. S7 CHECK CIRCUIT 14 (BN) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between the headlamp switch C205a-2, circuit 14 (BN), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR circuit 477 (LB/BK). TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 1050 (LG/VT). TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. S8 CHECK CIRCUIT 1205 (BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between the fog lamp relay C1007-2, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : REPAIR circuit 478 (TN/9G). TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR circuit 1205 (BK). TEST the system for normal operation.
