Pinpoint Test Q: The Stability Assist Switch Indicator Is Never/Always On

  1. Q1 DETERMINE THE CONDITION 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Observe the stability traction control switch indicator.
    • Is the OFF indicator on the stability traction control switch illuminated? 
    • Yes  : GO to Q2.
    • No  : GO to  Q4.
  2. Q2 CHECK THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: ABS Module C155.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Does the OFF indicator on the stability traction control switch continue to illuminate? 
    • Yes  : GO to Q3.
    • No  : GO to Q3.
  3. Q3 CHECK CIRCUIT 960 (BK/LB) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Stability Traction Control Switch C280.
    • Measure the resistance between the stability traction control switch C280-4, circuit 960 (BK/LB), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new stability traction control switch. REFER to STABILITY TRACTION CONTROL SWITCH . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  4. Q4 CHECK CIRCUIT 1003 (GY/YE) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Stability Traction Control Switch C280.
    • Measure the voltage between the stability traction control switch C280-6, circuit 1003 (GY/YE), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    • Yes  : GO to Q5.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. Q5 CHECK CIRCUIT 960 (BK/LB) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Disconnect: ABS Module C155.
    • Measure the resistance between the stability traction control switch C280-4, circuit 960 (BK/LB), harness side and the ABS module C155-13, circuit 960 (BK/LB), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    • Yes  : GO to Q6.
    • No  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  6. Q6 CHECK THE STABILITY TRACTION CONTROL SWITCH 
    • Connect: Stability Traction Control Switch C280.
    • Connect a fused (5A) jumper wire between the ABS module C155-13, circuit 960 (BK/LB), harness side and ground.

    • Is the OFF indicator on the stability traction control switch illuminated? 
  7. Q7 CHECK FOR CORRECT ABS MODULE OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all the ABS connectors.
    • Check for:
      • Corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all the ABS connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 
    • Yes  : INSTALL a new ABS module. REFER to ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) MODULE . TEST the system for normal operation.
    • No  : The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
