Single CARDAN Universal Joints: Disassembly

  1. Place the shaft on a suitable workbench. DO NOT damage the tube. Index mark the shaft components. See Fig 1. Remove and discard all 4 of the snap rings. Clamp the "C" Frame and Screw Clamp Installer/Remover (205-086, T74P-4635-C) in a vise.
    2. NOTE: If necessary, use a pair of pliers to remove a "U" joint bearing cup that fails to press out all the way.
  2. Remove the "U" joint bearing cups and the drive shaft slip yoke. See Fig 2. Position the drive shaft slip yoke in the "C" frame and screw clamp installer/remover. Press out a "U" joint bearing cup. Rotate the drive shaft slip yoke 180 degrees. Press on the "U" joint to remove the remaining "U" joint bearing cup.
  3. Remove the drive shaft slip yoke. Repeat "U" joint bearing cup removal in this procedure to remove the remaining "U" joint bearing cups and the "U" joint from the shaft. Clean the yoke area at the end of the shaft.
