Drive Shaft Slip Yoke: Assembly

  1. Fill the drive shaft slip yoke boot with approximately 0.36 oz. (0.010L), of Premium Long-Life Grease (XG-1-C). Position the drive shaft slip yoke boot clamp on the stub shaft. Slide the drive shaft slip yoke boot over the stub shaft, and seat it in the boot groove.
  2. If replacing the drive shaft slip yoke boot on the rear drive shaft of a three-piece drive shaft equipped vehicle, use the Keystone Clamp Installer (211-002, T63P-9171-A) to install the rear drive shaft slip yoke boot clamp. See Fig 1.
  3. On all vehicles, install the drive shaft slip yoke. Position the drive shaft slip yoke boot clamp. See Fig 2. Pull the drive shaft slip yoke boot toward the stub shaft tube. Lubricate the stub shaft splines using Premium Long-Life Grease (XG-1-C).
  4. Align the index marks on the drive shaft slip yoke and the stub shaft. Install the drive shaft onto the stub shaft and seat the drive shaft slip yoke boot in the drive shaft slip yoke boot groove.
  5. If replacing a drive shaft slip yoke boot on the front drive shaft of a three-piece drive shaft equipped vehicle, remove all excess grease from the slip yoke boot and the slip yoke. Using the Constant Velocity Joint Boot Clamp Installer (205-343, T95P-3514-A), install both drive shaft slip yoke boot clamps. See Fig 3. Tighten the constant velocity joint boot clamp installer until the clamp is secure.
  6. If replacing the drive shaft slip yoke boot on the rear drive shaft of a three-piece drive shaft equipped vehicle, remove all excess grease from the slip yoke boot and the slip yoke. Set the drive shaft assembled length to specification. See Fig 4.
  7. Measure from the stub shaft weld to the "U" joint centerline. Bleed the air from the drive shaft slip yoke boot. See Fig 1. Position the drive shaft slip yoke boot clamp. Using the keystone clamp installer, install the drive shaft slip yoke boot clamp.
