Disassembly & Assembly

- DO NOT clamp the drive shaft in the jaws of a vice or a similar holding fixture. Place the drive shaft on a suitable workbench.
- On reverse slip drive shafts, use a suitable flange holding tool to prevent drive shaft rotation and remove the flange retaining nut. Remove the flange. See Fig 1.
- Remove the rubber insulator surrounding the bearing. Remove the drive shaft center bearing retainer. See Fig 2. Remove the drive shaft center bearing bracket. Remove the rubber insulator.
- Using a suitable press, remove the center bearing from the drive shaft. Using a suitable press, remove the dust slinger. See Fig 3. Clean grease deposits, dirt and rust from the stub shaft.
- Inspect the stub shaft splines for nicks, gouges, or burrs and remove with a file or emery cloth, if necessary. To assemble, reverse the diassembly procedure. The drive shaft center bearing bracket must be installed with the deep flange rearward. Lubricate the stub shaft spline with Premium Long-Life Grease (XG-1-C).
- Tighten all fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
