Double CARDAN Universal Joints: Disassembly

- Place the drive shaft on a suitable workbench. Index mark the double cardan yokes. See Fig 1. Remove all of the snap rings. See Fig 2. Clamp the "C" Frame and Screw Installer/Remover (205-086, T74P-4635-C), in a swivel base vise.
- Using the "C" frame and screw installer/remover, press the 2 "U" joint bearing cups out of the opposite side of the drive shaft center yoke. See Fig 3. Alternate the pressure between the "U" joints.
- Remove "U" joint bearing cups with gripping pliers. See Fig 4. Using the "C" frame and screw installer/remover, press the 2 "U" joint bearing cups out of the opposite side of the drive shaft center yoke.
- Press the 2 remaining "U" joint bearing cups out of the opposite side of the drive shaft center yoke. Remove the "U" joint bearing cups with gripping pliers. Alternate the pressure between the "U" joints.
- Remove remaining "U" joint bearing cups and "U" joints. On the one-piece rear drive shaft, remove the spring. The centering ball on the drive shaft end yoke is not repairable. See Fig 5. Discard the drive shaft if the centering ball is damaged.
CAUTION:
DO NOT continue to tighten the "C" frame and screw installer/remover, if the "U" joint bottoms out in the yoke or damage will occur to the center bearing shield.
