Installation (F150)

  1. Using the high lift transmission jack, raise and position the transmission. Install the 6 engine-to-transmission bolts and tighten to specification. See Figure . See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  2. Install the 2 engine oil pan-to-transmission bolts and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  . Raise the transmission, then install the muffler and tail pipe into the exhaust hanger insulators. Install the transmission mount and exhaust bracket. Position the transmission mount. Install the bolts and tighten to specification. See Figure .
  3. Install the exhaust pipe bracket nut. See Figure . Install and position the crossmember. Install the crossmember bolts and tighten to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  4. Install the transmission mount bolts. Install the 2 heat shield bolts to the crossmember. See Figure . Remove the jack from the transmission. Connect the clutch hydraulic line.
    5. NOTE: Align the index marks made during removal.
  5. On models equipped with 4WD, connect the transfer case shift lever and install the bolt. See Figure . Install the transfer case. Install the torsion bars and the torsion bar crossmember. Install the front drive shaft. See DRIVE SHAFTS - F150 article in DRIVE AXLES. Install transfer case heat shield. See Figure . Install the skid plate.
  6. On all models, install the rear drive shaft. See DRIVE SHAFTS - F150 article in DRIVE AXLES. Install the starter. See appropriate STARTERS article. Connect the wiring harness to the transmission and transfer case (if equipped), and the HO2S. Install the fuel line bracket onto rear of transmission.
  7. Install the lower gearshift lever. See Figure . Install the lower gearshift lever boot. See Figure . Install the upper gearshift lever. Install the upper gearshift lever boot.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable. Fill transmission with appropriate fluid to proper level. See SERVICING - M/T article in MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS. Check the vehicle ride height. Adjust as necessary.
