Installation (F250-F550)

NOTE:
When installing the original pressure plate on 5.4L, 6.0L and 6.8L applications, reset the wear indicator before installing the pressure plate on the flywheel. See WEAR INDICATOR
under ADJUSTMENTS.
NOTE:
Sometimes, when removing the transmission, the input shaft will remove a considerable amount of lubricant from the transmission input shaft pilot bearing. Lubricate the transmission input shaft pilot bearing, as necessary. Use Krytox(R) high-temperature grease.
- Position the clutch disc on the flywheel and the clutch alignment tool in the pilot bearing to align the clutch disc. The 5.4L and 6.8L engines accept a 1 1/4" (32 mm) input shaft. The 7.3L engines accept a 1 3/8" (35 mm) input shaft.
- If reusing pressure plate and flywheel, align the index marks. Install the pressure plate. Position the pressure plate on the dowels. The diesel engine flywheel has 2 dowels. The gasoline engine flywheel has 3 dowels.
- Using a clutch aligner, align the clutch disc and the pressure plate. See Fig 1 . Install the pressure plate bolts and tighten in a star pattern sequence to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Remove the clutch aligner. See Figure . Install the transmission. See TRANSMISSION . Test the system for normal operation.
