Rear Brake Caliper: Disassembly

  1. Remove caliper. See REAR BRAKE CALIPER & PADS  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Drain brake fluid from caliper. Mount caliper in a soft-jawed vise. Using Rear Caliper Piston Adjuster (T87P-2588-A), rotate piston counterclockwise and remove piston and adjuster from bore. See Figure. Remove and discard dust boot and seal from bore.
  2. Unload the spring tension from the parking brake lever pin retainer clip and spring cover using the Rear Caliper Spring Compressor (T87P-2588-B), a 6-mm washer head nut and a 1/2-inch drive 14-mm socket. Remove the parking brake lever pin retainer clip with suitable snap-ring pliers. Remove the special tool, nut and socket. See Figure.
  3. Carefully remove snap ring, as snap ring and spring cover are under spring load. Remove spring cover, spring, flat washer and key plate. Pull push rod and strut pin from bore. Discard "O" ring from push rod.
  4. Remove parking brake lever return spring. Remove limiting spring, lever bolt, and pull lever out of housing. See Figure. Remove and discard seal.
