Pinpoint Test AW: The Headlamp On Reminder Chime Is Inoperative

  1. AW1 CHECK THE INTERIOR LAMPS 
    • Open the driver door.
    • Does the interior dome lamp illuminate when the door is open? 

    Yes 

    GO to AW2.

    No 

    REPAIR the interior dome lamps. Refer to INTERIOR LIGHTING .

  2. AW2 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT ILLUMINATION LAMPS 
    • Turn the parking lamps ON.
    • Are the instrument illumination lamps on? 

    Yes 

    GO to AW3.

    No 

    Go To PINPOINT TEST B .

  3. AW3 CHECK THE VEHICLE SECURITY MODULE OUTPUT 
    • Turn the autolamps OFF.
    • Connect the diagnostic tool.
    • Turn the parking lamps ON.
    • Monitor the headlamp switch status PID.
    • Does the headlamp switch PID show the parking lamps on? 

    Yes 

    GO to AW4.

    No 

    GO to  AW5.

  4. AW4 CHECK FOR CORRECT INSTRUMENT CLUSTER OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all instrument cluster connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all instrument cluster connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 

    Yes 

    INSTALL a new instrument cluster. Refer to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . TEST the system for normal operation.

    No 

    The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.

  5. AW5 CHECK FOR VEHICLE SECURITY MODULE OPERATION 
    • Disconnect all vehicle security module connectors.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion
      • pushed-out pins
    • Connect all vehicle security module connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
    • Is the concern still present? 

    Yes 

    INSTALL a new vehicle security module. Section 419-01. TEST the system for normal operation.

    No 

    The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
