Removal & Installation

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Mercury Mountaineer and 2003 Ford Explorer. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Lower tilt steering column to lowest position. Remove steering column opening cover retaining screws and opening cover. Remove 3 retaining screws from lower steering column cover. Remove upper and lower steering column cover. Pull instrument panel center finish panel away from instrument panel, disconnect appropriate electrical connectors and remove finish panel.
  2. Remove instrument cluster finish panel retaining screws, disconnect appropriate electrical connectors and remove finish panel. Remove instrument cluster mounting bolts. See Fig 1 . Depress retaining tabs and remove transmission range indicator, if equipped. Disconnect instrument cluster electrical connectors and remove instrument cluster.
  3. To install, reverse removal procedure. Connect negative battery cable. Check AIR BAG warning light for proper system function. See SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  .
