Pinpoint Test N: The Turn Signal Lamps Are Always On

- N1 DETERMINE THE ALWAYS ON TURN LAMPS
- Key in ON position.
- Make sure the multifunction switch is in the NEUTRAL position and observe the turn lamps.
- Are any turn lamps flashing on and off?
Yes: GO to N2.
No: GO to N4.
- N2 CHECK THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Multifunction Switch 22080.
- Key in ON position.
- Do the turn lamps continue to flash on and off?
Yes: GO to N3.
No: INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH . CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- N3 CHECK CIRCUIT 1690 (LB/RD) OR CIRCUIT 1691 (LG/OG) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280e.
- Measure the resistance between the multifunction switch C2080-8, circuit 1690 (LB/RD) (LH turn lamps), harness side and ground; or between the multifunction switch C2080-6, circuit 1691 (LG/OG) (RH turn lamps), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes: GO to N5.
No: REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
- N4 CHECK CIRCUIT 3 (LG/WH) (LH TURN LAMP) OR CIRCUIT 2 (WH/LB) (RH TURN LAMP) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280c (Rear Turn Lamp).
- Disconnect: SJB C2280b (Front Turn Lamp).
- Key in ON position.
- Does the turn lamp continue to illuminate?
Yes: REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
No: GO to N5.
- N5 CHECK FOR CORRECT SJB OPERATION
- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes: INSTALL a new SJB. REFER to SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) . TEST the system for normal operation.
No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
