Pinpoint Test E: The Autolamps Are On Continuously
- E1 USE THE RECORDED DTCS FROM THE SJB SELF-TEST
- Key in OFF position.
- Using the recorded results from the SJB self-test:
- Were any DTCs recorded?
Yes
If DTCB1470, GO to E2.
If DTCB1790, GO to E8.
No
GO to E8.
- E2 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH OUTPUT
- Connect the diagnostic tool.
- Key in ON position.
- Monitor the SJB headlamp switch status PID while rotating the knob through all of the headlamp switch positions.
- Does the PID match with the headlamp switch positions?
Yes
GO to E13
No
GO to E3.
- E3 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Headlamp Switch C205.
- Carry out the headlamp switch component test. Refer to COMPONENT TESTING .
- Is the headlamp switch OK?
Yes
GO to E4.
No
INSTALL a new headlamp switch. Refer to HEADLAMP SWITCH . CLEAR any DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E4 CHECK CIRCUIT 1205 (BK) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between headlamp switch C205-7, circuit 1205 (BK), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to E5.
No
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR any DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E5 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO POWER
- Disconnect: SJB C2280b.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the headlamp switch connector, harness side and ground as follows:CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
Headlamp Switch Connector-Pin Circuit C205-4 1399 (DB/WH) C205-9 1400 (TN/WH) C205-5 1401 (BK/LG) C205-10 1402 (RD/WH) - Is any voltage present?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR any DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to E6.
- E6 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between the SJB connector, harness side and headlamp switch connector, harness side as follows:CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
SJB Connector-Pin Headlamp Switch Connector-Pin Circuit C2280b-41 C205-4 1399 (DB/WH) C2280b-27 C205-9 1400 (TN/WH) C2280b-31 C205-5 1401 (BK/LG) C2280b-46 C205-10 1402 (RD/WH) - Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to E7.
No
REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR any DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E7 CHECK THE HEADLAMP SWITCH SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR SHORT TO GROUND
- Measure the resistance between the headlamp switch connector, harness side and ground as follows:CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
Headlamp Switch Connector-Pin Circuit C205-4 1399 (DB/WH) C205-9 1400 (TN/WH) C205-5 1401 (BK/LG) C205-10 1402 (RD/WH) - Are the resistances greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
GO to E13
No
REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR any DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- Measure the resistance between the headlamp switch connector, harness side and ground as follows:
- E8 CHECK THE OPERATION OF THE LIGHT SENSOR
- Monitor the SJB light sensor status PID while covering and then illuminating the light sensor.
- Does the PID percentage change with the sensor covered and then illuminated?
Yes
GO to E13.
No
GO to E9.
- E9 CHECK THE LIGHT SENSOR
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Light Sensor C286.
- Key in ON position.
- Monitor the SJB light sensor status PID while connecting and then disconnecting a fused (5A) jumper wire between light sensor C286-2, circuit 1416 (YE/WH), harness side and light sensor C286-5, circuit 1203 (BK/LB), harness side.
- Does the PID percentage change with the jumper wire connected and then disconnected?
Yes
INSTALL a new light sensor. Refer to LIGHT SENSOR .
CLEAR any DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to E10.
- E10 CHECK THE CIRCUIT 1416 (YE/WH) FOR SHORT TO POWER
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: SJB C2280b.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between light sensor C286-2, circuit 1416 (YE/WH), harness side ground.
- Is any voltage present?
Yes
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR any DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
No
GO to E11.
- E11 CHECK CIRCUIT 1416 (YE/WH) FOR AN OPEN
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between light sensor C286-2, circuit 1416 (YE/WH), harness side and SJB C2280b-15, circuit 1416 (YE/WH), harness side.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to E12.
No
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR any DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E12 CHECK CIRCUIT 1203 (BK/LB) FOR AN OPEN
- Measure the resistance between light sensor C286-5, circuit 1203 (BK/LB), harness side and ground.
- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes
GO to E13.
No
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR any DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.
- E13 CHECK FOR SJB OPERATION
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect all the SJB connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the SJB connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
Yes
INSTALL a new SJB. Refer to SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) .
TEST the system for normal operation.
No
The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR any DTCs. REPEAT the self-test.
