Pinpoint Test I: DTC U0100, U0101, U2511
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2010 Mercury Mariner and 2010 Ford Escape. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- I1 CHECK THE BATTERY STATE OF CHARGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Check the battery state of charge with the battery condition test. Refer to PINPOINT TEST A: BATTERY CONDITION TEST .
- Does the battery pass the battery condition test?
- Yes: GO to I2 .
- No: REFER to CHARGING SYSTEM to diagnose the low battery voltage condition.
- I2 CHECK FOR MODULE COMMUNICATION ON THE HS-CAN
- Connect the scan tool.
- Ignition ON.
- Carry out the network test using the scan tool.
- Is the scan tool able to communicate with all of the modules on the HS-CAN ?
- Yes: The fault is not currently present, GO to I3 .
- No: REFER to PINPOINT TEST T: NO HIGH SPEED CONTROLLER AREA NETWORK (HS-CAN) COMMUNICATION, ALL MODULES ARE NOT RESPONDING to diagnose the module that is not communicating with the scan tool.
- I3 INSPECT THE HS-CAN CIRCUITRY
- Ignition OFF.
- Inspect all of the HS-CAN for a faulty or intermittent connection, including the pin crimps, connector fit, corroded/bent/pushed-out/damaged pins and splice integrity in the splices and connections (connectors) between the TCM and the IC .
- Does the HS-CAN circuitry pass the component inspection?
- Yes: GO to I4 .
- No: REPAIR the HS-CAN circuitry as necessary. CLEAR the DTCs. CYCLE the ignition. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
- I4 CHECK FOR CORRECT TCM OPERATION NOTE: When a new TCM is installed, the PATS keys do not need to be programmed into the IC .
- Disconnect all the TCM connectors.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect all the TCM connectors and make sure they seat correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes: INSTALL a new TCM . REFER to REMOVAL . RESET the parameters in both the IC and the TCM . REFER to PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) PARAMETER RESET . CYCLE the ignition. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation. If the concern is still present, GO to I5 .
- No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
- I5 CHECK FOR CORRECT IC OPERATION
- Disconnect the IC connector.
- Check for:
- corrosion
- damaged pins
- pushed-out pins
- Connect the IC connector and make sure it seats correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
- Is the concern still present?
- Yes: INSTALL a new IC . REFER to INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (IC) . RESET the parameters in both the IC and the TCM . REFER to PASSIVE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM (PATS) PARAMETER RESET . PROGRAM the PATS keys into the new IC . REFER to SPARE KEY PROGRAMMING - USING DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT . CYCLE the ignition. REPEAT the self-test. TEST the system for normal operation.
- No: The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
