Pinpoint Test J: The Turn Signal Lamps Are Inoperative

NOTE: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
  1. J1 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE ELECTRONIC FLASHER 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Electronic Flasher C2141
    • Key in ON position.

    • Measure the voltage between the electronic flasher C2141-2, circuit 385 (WH/RD), harness side and ground.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : Go to  J2.
    2. NO  : Go to  J7.
  2. J2 CHECK CIRCUIT 57 (BK) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.

    • Measure the resistance between the electronic flasher C2141-3, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  J3.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  3. J3 CHECK THE FLASHER OUTPUT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in ON position.

    • Measure the voltage between the electronic flasher C2141-1, circuit 44 (LB), harness side and ground.
    • Is any voltage present? 
    1. YES  : Go to  J4.
    2. NO  : Go to  J5.
  4. J4 CHECK CIRCUIT 44 (LB) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202a
    • Key in ON position.

    • Measure the voltage between the electronic flasher C2141-1, circuit 44 (LB), harness side and ground.
    • Is any voltage present? 
    1. YES  : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
  5. J5 BYPASS THE ELECTRONIC FLASHER

    • Connect a fused (20A) jumper wire between the electronic flasher C2141-2, circuit 385 (WH/RD), harness side and the electronic flasher C2141-1, circuit 44 (LB), harness side.
    • Key in ON position.
    • Place the multifunction switch in the LH or RH position.
    • Are the LH or RH turn lamps illuminated? 
    1. YES  : REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new electronic flasher. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : LEAVE the jumper wire connected. Go to  J6.
  6. J6 CHECK CIRCUIT 44 (LB) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202a
    • Key in ON position.

    • Measure the voltage between the multifunction switch C202a-1, circuit 44 (LB), harness side and ground.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : REMOVE the jumper wire. REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  7. J7 CHECK CIRCUIT 8 (OG/YE) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Multifunction Switch C202a
    • Key in ON position.

    • Measure the voltage between the multifunction switch C202a-9, circuit 8 (OG/YE), harness side and ground.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : Go to  J8.
    2. NO  : VERIFY the CJB fuse 7 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
  8. J8 BYPASS THE MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH 
    • Key in OFF position.

    • Connect a fused (20A) jumper wire between the multifunction switch C202a-9, circuit 8 (OG/YE), harness side and the multifunction switch C202a-10, circuit 385 (WH/RD), harness side.
    • Key in ON position.

    • Measure the voltage between the electronic flasher C2141-2, circuit 385 (WH/RD), harness side and ground.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article. TEST the system for normal operation.
    2. NO  : REMOVE the jumper wire. REPAIR circuit 385 (WH/RD) for an open. TEST the system for normal operation.
