Pinpoint Test H: The Heated Seat Is Inoperative - Driver

  1. H1 CHECK THE VOLTAGE TO THE HEATED SEAT MODULE 
    WARNING: The restraint system diagnostic tool is for restraint system service only. Remove from vehicle prior to road use. Failure to remove could result in injury and possible violation of vehicle safety standards.
    NOTE: The air bag warning lamp illuminates when the restraints control module (RCM) fuse is removed and the ignition switch is ON. This is normal operation and does not indicate a supplemental restraint system (SRS) fault.
    NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Depower the SRS. Refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in the General Procedures portion of SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
    • Disconnect the driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201.
    • Connect restraint system diagnostic tool 418-F395 to the driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201.
    • WARNING: Be sure that nobody is in the vehicle and that there is nothing blocking or set in front of any air bag module when the battery ground cable is connected.
    • Connect the battery ground cable.
    • Disconnect: Driver Heated Seat Module C359
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between driver heated seat module C359-12, circuit 1153 (RD/BK), harness side and ground; and between driver heated seat module C359-5, circuit 294 (WH/LB), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H2.
    2. NO  : If voltage is less than 10 volts at circuit 1153 (RD/BK), VERIFY central junction box (CJB) fuse 118 (30A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR circuit 1153 (RD/BK). If voltage is less than 10 volts at circuit 294 (WH/LB), VERIFY CJB fuse 18 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR circuit 294 (WH/LB). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
  2. H2 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT MODULE GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between driver heated seat module C359-1, circuit 57 (BK), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H3.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 57 (BK). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self test.
  3. H3 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between driver heated seat module C359-3, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side and ground; and between C359-4, circuit 1060 (BK/LB), harness side and ground.
    • Is voltage present on either circuit? 
    1. YES  : REPAIR circuit 1061 (BN/LB) or circuit 1060 (BK/LB). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
    2. NO  : Go to  H4.
  4. H4 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT TEMPERATURE SENSOR 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between driver heated seat module C359-3, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side and C359-4, circuit 1060 (BK/LB), harness side; and between C359-3, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 300,000 ohms and greater than 50 ohms between C359-3 and C359-4 and greater than 10,000 ohms between C359-3 and ground? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H7.
    2. NO  : Go to  H5.
  5. H5 CHECK CIRCUIT 1060 (BK/LB) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Driver Seat Cushion Heater C364
    • Measure the resistance between driver heated seat module C359-4, circuit 1060 (BK/LB), harness side and driver seat cushion heater C364-3, circuit 1060 (BK/LB), harness side; and between driver heated seat module C359-4, circuit 1060 (BK/LB), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between C359-4 and C364-3, and greater than 10,000 ohms between C359-4 and ground? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H6.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 1060 (BK/LB). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
  6. H6 CHECK CIRCUIT 1061 (BN/LB) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between driver heated seat module C359-3, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side and driver seat cushion heater C364-2, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side; and between driver heated seat module C359-3, circuit 1061 (BN/LB), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between C359-3 and C364-2, and greater than 10,000 ohms between C359-3 and ground? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new driver seat cushion heater. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 1061 (BN/LB). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
  7. H7 CHECK THE SEAT CUSHION HEATER AND THE SEAT BACK HEATER FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between driver heated seat module C359-6, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side and ground; and between C359-7, circuit 1065 (WH/LB), harness side and ground.
    • Is voltage present on either circuit? 
    1. YES  : REPAIR circuit 1064 (YE/LB), circuit 1065 (WH/LB) or circuit 1018 (LG/OG). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
    2. NO  : Go to  H8.
  8. H8 CHECK THE SEAT CUSHION HEATER AND SEAT BACK HEATER CIRCUITS 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between driver heated seat module C359-6, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side and C359-7, circuit 1065 (WH/LB), harness side; and between driver heated seat module C359-6, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side and ground
    • Is the resistance greater than 1.6 ohms and less than 10 ohms between C359-6 and C359-7 and greater than 10,000 ohms between C359-6 and ground? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H13.
    2. NO  : Go to  H9.
  9. H9 CHECK CIRCUIT 1064 (YE/LB) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Driver Seat Cushion Heater C364
    • Measure the resistance between driver heated seat module C359-6, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side and driver seat cushion heater C364-4, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side; and between driver heated seat module C359-6, circuit 1064 (YE/LB), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between C359-6 and C364-4, and greater than 10,000 ohms between C359-6 and ground? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H10.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 1064 (YE/LB). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
  10. H10 CHECK CIRCUIT 1065 (WH/LB) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Disconnect: Driver Seat Backrest Heater C365
    • Measure the resistance between driver heated seat module C359-7, circuit 1065 (WH/LB), harness side and driver seat backrest heater C365-1, circuit 1065 (WH/LB), harness side; and between driver heated seat module C359-7, circuit 1065 (WH/LB), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between C359-7 and C365-1, and greater than 10,000 ohms between C359-7 and ground? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H11.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 1065 (WH/LB). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
  11. H11 CHECK CIRCUIT 1018 (LG/OG) FOR AN OPEN OR SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Measure the resistance between driver seat cushion heater C364-1, circuit 1018 (LG/OG), harness side and driver seat backrest heater C365-2, circuit 1018 (LG/OG), harness side; and between driver seat cushion heater C364-1, circuit 1018 (LG/OG), harness side and ground.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms between C364-1 and C365-2, and greater than 10,000 ohms between C364-1 and ground? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H12.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 1018 (LG/OG). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
  12. H12 CHECK THE DRIVER SEAT BACKREST HEATER 
    • Measure the resistance between driver seat backrest heater C365-1, component side and C365-2, component side.

    • Is the resistance between 0.6 and 1.2 ohms? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new driver seat cushion heater. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
    2. NO  : INSTALL a new driver seat backrest heater. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article.
  13. H13 CHECK CIRCUIT 1255 (WH/RD) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: EATC Module C228b
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between driver heated seat module C359-8, circuit 1255 (WH/RD), harness side and ground.

    • Is the voltage less than 0.2 volt? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H14.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 1255 (WH/RD). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self test.
  14. H14 CHECK CIRCUIT 1255 (WH/RD) FOR A SHORT TO GROUND 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between driver heated seat module C359-8, circuit 1255 (WH/RD), harness side and ground.
    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H15.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 1255 (WH/RD). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self test.
  15. H15 CHECK CIRCUIT 1255 (WH/RD) FOR AN OPEN 
    • Measure the resistance between driver heated seat module C359-8, circuit 1255 (WH/RD), harness side and EATC module C228b-6, circuit 1255 (WH/RD), harness side.

    • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H16.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuit 1255 (WH/RD). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self test.
  16. H16 CHECK THE HEATED SEAT MODULE 
    • Connect: Driver Heated Seat Module C359
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between EATC module C228b-7, circuit 1551 (VT/WH), harness side and ground; and between EATC module C228b-8, circuit 1250 (PK/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H18.
    2. NO  : Go to  H17.
  17. H17 CHECK CIRCUITS 1551 (VT/WH) AND 1250 (PK/WH) FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Disconnect: Heated Seat Module C359
    • Key in ON position.
    • Measure the voltage between EATC module C228b-7, circuit 1551 (VT/WH), harness side and ground; and between EATC module C228b-8, circuit 1250 (PK/WH), harness side and ground.

    • Are the voltages less than 0.2 volt? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new heated seat module. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self test.
    2. NO  : REPAIR the affected circuits. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self test.
  18. H18 CHECK CIRCUITS 1551 (VT/WH) AND 1250 (PK/WH) FOR A SHORT 
    • Key in OFF position.
    • Measure the resistance between EATC module C228b-7, circuit 1551 (VT/WH), harness side and C228b-8, circuit 1250 (PK/WH), harness side.

    • Is the resistance greater than 10,000 ohms? 
    1. YES  : Go to  H19.
    2. NO  : REPAIR circuits 1551 (VT/WH) and 1250 (PK/WH). TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self test.
  19. H19 CHECK THE EATC MODULE OUTPUT 
    • Connect: EATC Module C228b
    • Connect: Driver Heated Seat Module C359
    • Key in ON position.
    • NOTE: The voltage on circuit 1255 (WH/RD) should drop momentarily when the driver heated seat control button is pressed.
    • Measure the voltage between driver heated seat module C359-8, circuit 1255 (WH/RD), harness side and ground by back-probing driver heated seat module C359-8. Press the driver heated seat control button on the EATC module and note the voltage.
    • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts when the driver heated seat control button is not pressed then momentarily drop when the heated seat control button is pressed? 
    1. YES  : INSTALL a new driver heated seat module. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self test.
    2. NO  : If the voltage is greater than 10 volts but did not drop when the driver heated seat button was pressed, INSTALL a new EATC module. REFER to CLIMATE CONTROL article. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self test.

      If the voltage is less than 10 volts, INSTALL a new driver heated seat module. TEST the system for normal operation. DISCONNECT the battery ground cable. DISCONNECT the restraint system diagnostic tool from driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. CONNECT driver seat safety belt buckle pretensioner C3201. REPOWER the supplemental restraint system (SRS). REFER to SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM article. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the self test.
