Pinpoint Test A: No Communication With The Instrument Cluster
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis and 2006 Ford Crown Victoria. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
CAUTION:
Use the correct probe adaptor(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adaptor(s) may damage the connector.
- A1 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER VOLTAGE SUPPLY
- Key in OFF position.
- Disconnect: Instrument Cluster C2220.
- Key in ON position.
- Measure the voltage between the instrument cluster, harness side and ground as follows:INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CONNECTOR AND CIRCUIT
Instrument Cluster Connector-Pin Circuit C2220-1 54 (LG/YE) C2220-17 1003 (GY/YE) C2220-19 640 (RD/YE) - Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?
Yes : GO to A2.
No : VERIFY the CJB fuses 1 (15A), 6 (10A) and 26 (10A) are OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
- A2 CHECK THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER GROUND CIRCUITS
- Key in OFF position.
- Measure the resistance between the instrument cluster, harness side and ground as follows:INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CONNECTORS AND CIRCUITS
Instrument Cluster Connector-Pin Circuit C2220-2 676 (PK/OG) C2220-18 57 (BK) - Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes : REFER to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK to continue diagnosis of the communication network.
No : REPAIR the circuit. TEST the system for normal operation.
