Test L: Check Engine Indicator Is Inoperative

NOTE: Perform all voltage and resistance tests using an Digital Volt-Ohm Meter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.

Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect Powertrain Control Module (PCM) 104-pin harness connector C175, located at right rear of engine compartment. See Figure. Also disconnect instrument cluster 16-pin harness connector C220a, located behind instrument cluster. SeeFigure. It may be necessary to remove instrument cluster to access connector. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between PCM harness connector C175 terminal No. 2 and instrument cluster harness connector C220a terminal No. 15 (Pink/Light Green wire). See Figure and Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistance is less than 5 ohms, check PCM operation. See appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS - EEC-V - GASOLINE & NGV article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open circuit in Pink/Light Green wire between PCM and instrument cluster. After repair, test system for normal operation.
