Test E: The Low Oil Pressure Warning Indicator Is Inoperative
NOTE:
Perform all voltage and resistance tests using an Digital Volt-Ohm Meter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect engine oil pressure switch single terminal harness connector C103, located at top front of engine. SeeFigure. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between ground and engine oil pressure switch single terminal harness connector C103 (White/Red wire). See Fig 1. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If oil pressure warning indicator light illuminates, go to next step. If oil pressure warning indicator light does not illuminate, go to step 3.
- Check engine oil pressure. See appropriate article in ENGINES. If oil pressure is within specification, replace oil pressure switch. See OIL PRESSURE SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If oil pressure is incorrect, repair engine oil pressure malfunction as necessary. After repair, test system for normal operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 16-pin harness connector C220b, located behind instrument cluster. SeeFigure. It may be necessary to remove instrument cluster to access connectors. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between instrument cluster harness connector C220b terminal No. 3 and engine oil pressure switch single terminal connector C103 (White/Red wire). See Figure and Fig 1 . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Also measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220b terminal No. 3 (White/Red wire). Resistance should be less than 5 ohms between instrument cluster and oil pressure switch, and more than 10 k/ohms between ground and instrument cluster. If resistances are as specified, go to next step. If any resistance is not as specified, repair open or short circuit in White/Red wire between instrument cluster and engine oil pressure switch. After repair, test system for normal operation.
- Inspect instrument cluster printed circuit for damage or hot spots. If instrument cluster printed circuit is okay, replace oil pressure warning indicator light. If instrument cluster printed circuit is faulty, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See PRINTED CIRCUIT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, test system for normal operation.
