Test A: Instrument Cluster Is Inoperative

NOTE: Perform all voltage and resistance tests using an Digital Volt-Ohm Meter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.
  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster 16-pin harness connectors C220a and C220b. Instrument cluster harness connectors are located behind instrument cluster. See Figure. It may be necessary to remove instrument cluster to access connectors. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster harness connectors C220a terminal No. 5 (White/Red wire) and C220b terminal No. 6 (Red/Yellow wire). See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If battery voltage exists at both terminals, go to next step. If battery voltage does not exist at either terminal, repair open circuit in White/Red wire or Red/Yellow wire between instrument cluster and Central Junction Box (CJB). CJB is located behind left side of instrument panel. See Figure. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  2. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220a terminal No. 1 (Black wire) and No. 8 (Black/Yellow wire). Also measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220b terminal No. 13 (Black/Yellow wire). See Fig 1 and Fig 2 . See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If resistances are less than 5 ohms, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If any resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open or short circuit in appropriate wire(s) between instrument cluster and ground point located behind center of instrument cluster. SeeFigure.
