Test B: Theft Indicator Is Always/Never On-Theft Indicator Will Not Prove Out

NOTE: Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) must be reconfigured if you are installing a new instrument cluster. See FORD MOTOR CO. under COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.

Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) tester or New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). See Figure. DLC is located under instrument panel between steering column and radio. See Figure. Using WDS or NGS tester, attempt to enter instrument cluster active command mode. If active command mode can be entered, go to next step. If active command mode can not be entered, perform TEST A: NO COMMUNICATION WITH INSTRUMENT CLUSTER . After repair, clear DTCs and repeat self-test.
Using WDS or NGS tester, trigger instrument cluster active command WARNING LAMPS AND CHIME to on. If THEFT indicator light does not illuminate, go to next step. If THEFT indicator light illuminates, system is okay at this time. Verify concern with customer.
Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Then remove THEFT indicator light from instrument cluster. Measure resistance between THEFT indicator light terminals in both directions. Resistance should be more than 10 k/ohms in one direction and 10-20 ohms in the other. If resistance is as specified, replace instrument cluster. If resistance is not as specified, replace THEFT indicator light. After repair, clear DTCs and repeat self-test.
