Test T: Turn Signal/Hazard Indicator Inoperative/Always On

NOTE: Perform all voltage and resistance tests using a Digital Volt-Ohm Meter (DVOM) with a minimum 10-megohm input impedance, unless stated otherwise in test procedure. Use ohmmeter to isolate wiring harness shorts or opens.
  1. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Operate hazard lights and left and right turn signals. If hazard lights and both turn signals operate properly, go to next step. If hazard lights and/or turn signals do not operate properly, repair as necessary. See EXTERIOR LIGHTS in SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL. After repair, test system for normal operation.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Access instrument cluster harness connectors. It may be necessary to remove instrument cluster for access to instrument cluster harness connectors. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If right turn signal indicator on instrument panel is never/always on, go to next step. If left turn signal indicator on instrument panel is never/always on, go to step  4.
  3. Disconnect 20-pin instrument cluster harness connector C220b. See Figure. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Place multifunction switch in right turn position. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220b terminal No. 3 (White/Light Blue wire). Voltage should pulse between zero and battery voltage. If voltage is as specified, go to step  5. If voltage is not as specified, repair open or short circuit in White/Light Blue wire between instrument cluster, multifunction switch and right front park/turn bulb. For INSTRUMENT CLUSTER circuit identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair, test system for normal operation.
  4. Disconnect 12-pin instrument cluster harness connector C220a. See Figure. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Place multifunction switch in left turn position. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220a terminal No. 3 (Light Green/White). Voltage should pulse between zero and battery voltage. If voltage is as specified, go to next step. If voltage is not as specified, repair open or short circuit in Light Green/White wire between instrument cluster, multifunction switch and left front park/turn bulb. For INSTRUMENT CLUSTER circuit identification, see WIRING DIAGRAMS . After repair, test system for normal operation.
  5. Disconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Inspect all instrument cluster harness connectors for loose, damaged or corroded terminals. If terminals are damaged, repair or replace as necessary. If terminals are not damaged, reconnect all instrument cluster harness connectors. Ensure instrument cluster harness connectors are seated properly. If problem still exists, replace instrument cluster module. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repair, clear DTCs, repeat self-test and check system for normal operation.
