Description & Operation

Instrument cluster is a Hybrid Electronic Cluster (HEC). Instrument cluster uses both hardwired and the Standard Corporate Protocol (SCP) communication network to transmit and receive information. As a technician it is very important to understand:

Instrument cluster carries out a display prove-out to verify that the warning/indicator miniature bulbs for monitored systems are functioning correctly. When the ignition switch is in the ON position with the engine off, the following warning indicators will prove out:

Instrument cluster contains a speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge, voltmeter and odometer. Odometer/trip odometer are mounted at the bottom of speedometer. Warning lights are placed in line below speedometer and tachometer gauges. Turn signal and high beam indicators are mounted in top center of instrument cluster.

Instrument cluster gauges are not replaceable separately. Instrument cluster illumination light, warning indicators and instrument cluster lens are the only replaceable components. LOW FUEL light will illuminate when fuel level gets below 1/8 of a tank. SERVICE ENGINE SOON, AIR BAG, THEFT, O/D OFF, seat belt and traction control indicators will illuminate for 3 seconds after ignition switch is turned from LOCK to RUN position.
