Test I: Air Bag Warning Indicator Is Inoperative

Deactivate air bag system. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS. Disconnect Restraints Control Module (RCM) connector C424. See COMPONENT LOCATIONS . Turn ignition ON. If air bag indicator turns on, go to next step. If air bag indicator does not turn on, go to step 3.
Turn ignition OFF. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C809. Measure resistance between harness connector C809 terminal No. 22 (Black/Green wire) and ground. See Figure. If resistance is greater than 10 k/ohms, system is operating correctly, diagnose air bag system. See AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article in RESTRAINTS. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Green wire.
Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check for corrosion, pushed out pins and connectors that are not connected properly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose connectors. Operate system. If problem still exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Configure replacement instrument cluster. See MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If problem does not exist, system is operating properly at this time. Clear any DTCs and retest.
