Test X: Cruise Control Indicator Is Never/Always On
- Verify proper operation of cruise control system. If cruise control is not operating properly, refer to CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS
article. If cruise control is operating, correctly go to next step.
- Turn ignition to LOCK position. Disconnect cruise control module connector C831. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between harness connector C831 terminal No. 1 and ground. Turn ignition ON. If cruise indicator is on with jumper wire connected and off with jumper wire disconnected, replace cruise control module. See CRUISE CONTROL SYSTEMS
article. If cruise control indicator is not on with jumper wire connected and not off with jumper wire disconnected, go to next step.
- Turn ignition to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C809. On SVT models disconnect auxiliary instrument cluster connector C953. Measure resistance between harness connector C809 terminal No. 4 (White/Black wire) and harness connector C831 terminal No. 1. See Figure and Fig 1
. On SVT models, measure resistance between harness connector C853 terminal No. 6 and harness connector C831 terminal No. 1. See Figure and Fig 1
. Also measure resistance between harness connector C809 terminal No. 4 and ground. On SVT models, measure resistance between harness connector C853 terminal No. 6 and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms between harness connector C809 or harness connector C853 (SVT) and harness connector C831, and greater than 10 k/ohms between harness connector C809 or harness connector C853 (SVT) and ground, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair open or short to ground in White/Black wire.
- Turn ignition ON. Measure voltage between harness connector C809 terminal No. 4 or harness connector C853 (SVT) terminal No. 6 and ground. If any voltage is present, repair short to power in White/Black wire. If no voltage is present, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check for corrosion, pushed out pins and connectors that are not connected properly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose connectors. Operate system. If problem still exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Configure replacement instrument cluster, see MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK
article. If problem does not exist, system is operating properly at this time. Clear any DTCs and retest.
