Test W: The Traction Control Indicator Is Never/Always On
- Turn ignition to LOCK position. Disconnect Traction Control Module (TCM) connector C830. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper wire between TCM harness connector C830 terminal No. 42 (Black/Green wire) and ground. Turn ignition ON. If traction control indicator is on with jumper wire connected and off with jumper wire disconnected, replace TCM. See appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES. If traction control indicator is not on with jumper wire connected and not off with jumper wire disconnected, go to next step.
- Turn ignition to LOCK. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C809. Measure resistance between harness connector C809 terminal No. 1 (Black/Green wire) and TCM harness connector C830 terminal No. 42. Also measure resistance between harness connector C809 terminal No. 1 and ground. If resistance is less than 5 ohms between harness connector C809 and harness connector C830, and greater than 10k/ohms between harness connector C809 and ground, go to next step. If resistance is not as stated, repair open or short to ground in Black/Green wire.
- Turn ignition ON. Measure voltage between C809 terminal No. 1 and ground. If any voltage is present, repair short to power in Black/Green wire. If no voltage is present, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check for corrosion, pushed out pins and connectors that are not connected properly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose connectors. Operate system. If problem still exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Configure replacement instrument cluster, see MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If problem does not exist, system is operating properly at this time. Clear any DTCs and retest.
