Test N: Engine Oil Pressure Warning Indicator Is Inoperative
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C809. See Figure. Disconnect engine oil pressure switch connector C953 (2.0L SPI) or C954 (2.0L Zetec-E). Measure resistance between terminal No. 19 (Black/Orange wire) at instrument cluster connector and terminal No. 1 (Black/Orange wire) at harness connector C953 (2.0L SPI) or C954 (2.0L Zetec-E). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black/Orange wire and retest.
- Connect instrument cluster connector C809. Connect a 5-amp fused jumper wire between ground and terminal No. 1 (Black/Orange wire) on harness side of engine oil pressure switch connector C953 (2.0L SPI) or C954 (2.0L Zetec-E). Turn ignition ON. If oil warning indicator illuminates, replace engine oil pressure switch and retest. If engine oil warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check for corrosion, pushed out pins and connectors that are not connected properly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose connectors. Operate system. If problem still exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Configure replacement instrument cluster, see MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article. If problem does not exist, system is operating properly at this time. Clear any DTCs and retest.
