Test J: Abs Warning Indicator Is Inoperative
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect NGS tester (418-F052). Select instrument cluster active command ALL LAMPS ON and OFF. If ABS warning indicator illuminates and turns off, go to next step. If ABS warning indicator illuminate and remains on, go to step 3.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument cluster connector C809. See Figure. Disconnect ABS module connector C830 (with traction control) or C840 (without traction control. See Fig 1 and Fig 2
. Measure resistance between harness connectors C830 terminal No. 39 or C840 terminal No. 44 (Black/Red wire) and ground. If resistance is more than 10 k/ohms, see appropriate ANTI-LOCK article in BRAKES. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms, repair short to ground in Black/Red wire and retest.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check for corrosion, pushed out pins and connectors that are not connected properly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose connectors. Operate system. If problem still exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Configure replacement instrument cluster, see MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK
article. If problem does not exist, system is operating properly at this time. Clear any DTCs and retest.
