Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
  2. Detach the upper clip on the air cleaner outlet tube. See Fig 1.
  3. Disconnect the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor harness connector. See Fig 2.
  4. Disconnect the breather pipe. Remove the air cleaner. See Fig 3.
  5. Remove the air cleaner outlet tube.
  6. Disconnect harness connector from filler cap.
  7. Remove fluid reservoir filler cap.
  8. Raise and support vehicle. Remove front wheels.
  9. Remove dust cap and loosen bleed nipple.
  10. Connect a bleed tube to bleed nipple and into a suitable container.
  11. Pump brake pedal until all fluid is expelled from reservoir. Tighten bleed nipple.
  12. Lower vehicle.
  13. Install brake fluid reservoir cap.
  14. Remove central electrical box retaining screw. See Figure.
  15. Disconnect central electrical box electrical connector. See Figure.
  16. Remove central electrical box and relocate to air cleaner area.
  17. Disconnect brake fluid feed tube. See Fig 4.
  18. Disconnect and cap brake lines from master cylinder. See Fig 5.
  19. On models with anti-lock brakes, disconnect and cap brake lines from Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU). See Fig 6.
  20. CAUTION: Ensure booster vacuum is exhausted before removing master cylinder.
  21. On all models, remove brake booster vacuum hose. Remove master cylinder nuts and remove master cylinder.
  22. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten fasteners to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Bleed brake system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM .
