Test S: Safety Belt Warning Indicator Inoperative Or Does Not Operate Correctly, Chime Is Operative

  1. Disconnect safety belt buckle switch 4-pin harness connector. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Connect a fused jumper wire (10-amp) between ground and 4-pin harness connector terminal No. 1 (Brown/Light Blue wire). If safety belt indicator illuminated, go to next step. If safety belt indicator did not illuminate, go to step  3.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and safety belt buckle harness connector C323 terminal No. 4 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, replace safety belt buckle switch. See SAFETY BELT BUCKLE SWITCH  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire and test system operation. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  3. Remove instrument cluster to gain access to instrument cluster harness connectors. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C220b. Measure resistance in Brown/Light Blue wire between instrument cluster harness connector C220b terminal No. 6 and safety belt buckle switch 4-pin harness connector terminal No. 1. See Figure. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open in Brown/Light Blue wire and test system operation. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  4. Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220b terminal No. 6 (Brown/Light Blue wire). If any voltage is present, repair short to voltage in Brown/Light Blue wire and test system operation. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If no voltage is present, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check instrument cluster for corrosion, pushed out pins and harness connectors that are not connected correctly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose harness connectors. Retest system operation. If problem does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear any DTCs. If problem exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation.
