Test R: Door Ajar Warning Indicator Inoperative, Chime Operative

  1. Open and close every door while observing interior lights. If interior lights operate correctly, go to next step. If interior lights do not operate correctly, repair interior lights concern. See INTERIOR LIGHTS in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below center of instrument panel, right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Select instrument cluster WARNING LAMPS AND CHIME active command. Trigger active command ALL LAMPS on and off. Observe the door ajar indicator. If door ajar indicator does not illuminate and turn off as commanded, go to step  6. If door ajar indicator does illuminate and turn off as commanded, go to next step (without remote keyless entry) or go to step  5 (with remote keyless entry).
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect driver's door ajar switch 2-pin harness connector. Remove instrument cluster to gain access to instrument cluster harness connectors. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C220b. Measure resistance in Light Green/Yellow wire between instrument cluster harness connector C220b terminal No. 1 and driver's door ajar switch 2-pin harness connector terminal No. 1. See Figure. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220b terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Yellow wire). Resistance should be greater than 10 k/ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to next step. If resistance is not as specified, repair open or short to ground in Light Green/Yellow wire and test system operation. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  4. Disconnect all door ajar switches. Measure resistance in Pink/Light Blue wire between instrument cluster harness connector C220b terminal No. 2 and passenger's front door ajar switch harness connector terminal No. 1. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220b terminal No. 2 (Pink/Light Blue wire). Resistance should be greater than 10 k/ohms. If resistance is as specified, go to step  6. If resistance is not as specified, repair open or short to ground in Pink/Light Blue wire and test system operation. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check Vehicle Security Module (VSM) for corrosion, pushed out pins and harness connectors that are not connected correctly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose harness connectors. Retest system operation. If problem does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear any DTCs. If problem exists, replace VSM. See VEHICLE SECURITY MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation.
  6. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check instrument cluster for corrosion, pushed out pins and harness connectors that are not connected correctly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose harness connectors. Retest system operation. If problem does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear any DTCs. If problem exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation.
