Test L: Service Engine Soon Warning Indicator Inoperative
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below center of instrument panel, right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Select instrument cluster WARNING LAMPS AND CHIME active command. Trigger active command ALL LAMPS on and off. Observe the SERVICE ENGINE SOON indicator. If SERVICE ENGINE SOON indicator does not illuminate and turn off as commanded, go to step. If SERVICE ENGINE SOON indicator does illuminate and turn off as commanded, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check for corrosion, pushed out pins and harness connectors that are not connected correctly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose harness connectors. Retest system operation. If problem does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear any DTCs. If problem exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation.
