Test Aa: Check Gage Indicator Is Inoperative/Always On

Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below center of instrument panel, right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Select instrument cluster WARNING LAMPS AND CHIME active command. Trigger active command ALL LAMPS on and off. Observe the CHECK GAGE indicator. If CHECK GAGE indicator does not illuminate and turn off as commanded, go to step 3. If CHECK GAGE indicator does illuminate and turn off as commanded, go to next step.
Start vehicle and let idle. Observe fuel gauge, voltmeter and engine oil pressure gauge. If gauges are operating properly, go to next step. If any gauge is not operating properly, repair vehicle by symptom. See SYMPTOM INDEX table under SYSTEM TESTS.
Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check instrument cluster for corrosion, pushed out pins and harness connectors that are not connected correctly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose harness connectors. Retest system operation. If problem does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear any DTCs. If problem exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation.
