Test Q: Right Turn Signal Indicator Inoperative
- Turn ignition switch to ON position. Operate right turn signal. If right turn signal operates correctly, go to next step. If right turn signal does not operate correctly, repair exterior lights concern. See EXTERIOR LIGHTS in appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article in ELECTRICAL.
- Remove instrument cluster to gain access to instrument cluster harness connectors. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C220c. Turn ignition switch to ON position. Place multifunction switch in left turn signal position. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220c terminal No. 4 (White/Light Blue wire). See Figure. If voltage fluctuates between zero and 10 volts, go to step 4. If voltage does not fluctuate between zero and 10 volts, go to next step.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect multifunction switch harness connector C202b. Measure resistance in White/Light Blue wire between instrument cluster harness connector C220c terminal No. 4 and multifunction switch harness connector C202b terminal No. 7. Resistance should be less than 5 ohms. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster C220c terminal No. 4 (Light Green/White wire). Resistance should be greater than 10 k/ohms. If resistance is as specified, replace multifunction switch. See STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES - EXCURSION & F250-550 PICKUPS article. If resistance is not as specified, repair open or short to ground in White/Light Blue wire and test system operation. See WIRING DIAGRAMS .
- Ensure ignition switch is in LOCK position. Measure resistance between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220c terminal No. 15 (Black wire). See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire between instrument cluster and ground point. Ground point is located behind left side of dash. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check for corrosion, pushed out pins and harness connectors that are not connected correctly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose harness connectors. Retest system operation. If problem does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear any DTCs. If problem exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation.
