Test M: Charge System Warning Indicator Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect generator 3-pin harness connector C102a. Connect a 10-amp jumper wire between ground and generator 3-pin harness connector C102a terminal No. 1 (Light Green/Red wire). Turn ignition switch to ON position. If charging system warning indicator does not illuminate, go to next step (gasoline engines only) or step  3 (diesel engines only). If charging system warning indicator illuminates, replace generator (gasoline engines only). See appropriate GENERATORS & REGULATORS article in ELECTRICAL. If charging system warning indicator illuminates, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE (diesel engines only).
  2. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove instrument cluster to gain access to instrument cluster harness connectors. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C220b. Measure resistance of Light Green/Red wire between instrument cluster harness connector C220b terminal No. 12 and generator 3-pin harness connector C102a terminal No. 1. See Figure. If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to step  4. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Green/Red wire between instrument cluster and generator. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
  3. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect PCM harness connector C175. Disconnect instrument cluster harness connector C220b. Measure resistance of Light Green/Red wire between instrument cluster harness connector C220b terminal No. 12 and PCM harness connector C175 terminal No. 67. See Figure and Fig 1 . If resistance is 5 ohms or less, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Light Green/Red wire between instrument cluster and PCM. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
  4. Measure voltage between ground and instrument cluster harness connector C220b terminal No. 12 (Light Green/Red wire). See Figure. If any voltage is present, repair short to voltage in Light Green/Red wire and test system operation. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If no voltage is not present, go to next step.
  5. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Check for corrosion, pushed out pins and harness connectors that are not connected correctly. Repair any damage found and reconnect any loose harness connectors. Retest system operation. If problem does not exist, system is operating correctly at this time. Clear any DTCs. If problem exists, replace instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation.
