Test Z: Transmission Selector Illumination Inoperative
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove any component necessary to gain access to transmission selector indicator bulb. Remove transmission selector indicator bulb. Check continuity between bulb terminals. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace bulb. Retest system operation.
- Remove any component necessary to gain access to transmission selector illumination 4-pin harness connector C314. Disconnect transmission selector illumination 4-pin harness connector C314. Turn parking lights on. Measure voltage between ground and transmission selector illumination 4-pin harness connector C314 terminal No. 1 (Red/Black wire). See Fig 1. If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Red/Black wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
- Measure voltage between ground and transmission selector illumination 4-pin harness connector C314 terminal No. 3 (Red wire) while rotating dimmer switch from low to high. If voltage range is .2-11.0 volts, repair or replace transmission selector illumination bulb socket assembly. Retest system operation. If voltage range is not .2-11.0 volts, repair open in Red wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
NOTE:
Ensure Black instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C252 is connected or inaccurate results will occur. See Figure.
