Test X: Instrument Panel Illumination Inoperative

  1. Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect Black instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C252. See Figure. Turn parking lights on. Measure voltage between ground and Black instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C252 terminal No. 5 (Red/Black wire). If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Red/Black wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
  2. NOTE: Ensure transmission selector illumination 4-pin harness connector C314 is connected or inaccurate results will occur.
  3. Remove any component necessary to gain access to transmission selector illumination 4-pin harness connector C314 and ensure connector is properly connected. Measure voltage between ground and Black instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C252 terminal No. 4 (Red wire) while rotating dimmer switch from low to high. If voltage range is .2-11.0 volts, replace instrument cluster printed circuit. See PRINTED CIRCUIT  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Retest system operation. If voltage range is not .2-11.0 volts, repair open in Red wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
