Test W: Instrument Panel Illumination Does Not Dim
NOTE:
Tests skip from TEST U to TEST W. No tests have been omitted.
- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Disconnect instrument panel dimming module (dimmer switch) 6-pin harness connector C221. Turn parking lights on. Measure voltage between ground and instrument panel dimming module 6-pin harness connector C221 terminal No. 4 (Red/Black wire). See Fig 1. If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn parking lights off and go to next step. If voltage is less than 10 volts, repair open in Red/Black wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
- Measure resistance between ground and instrument panel dimming module 6-pin harness connector C221 terminal No. 2 (Black wire). If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to next step. If resistance is more than 5 ohms, repair open in Black wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
- Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect Black instrument cluster 12-pin harness connector C252. See Figure. Remove any component necessary to gain access to transmission selector illumination 4-pin harness connector C314. Disconnect transmission selector illumination 4-pin harness connector C314. Remove Integrated Control Panel (ICP) enough to gain access to ICP harness connectors. See INTEGRATED CONTROL PANEL under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Disconnect ICP 8-pin harness connector C274 (radio). See Fig 2. Measure resistance between ground, and instrument panel dimming module 6-pin harness connector C221 terminal No. 6 (Green wire). Measure resistance between ground and instrument panel dimming module 6-pin harness connector C221 terminal No. 1 (Red wire). If resistances are more than 10 k/ohms for both tests, replace instrument panel dimming module. Retest system operation. If resistance is less than 10 k/ohms for either test, repair short to ground in Green and/or Red wire. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Retest system operation.
