  1. Remove the four shift lever boot screws. Pull the shift lever boot upward to access the shift housing.

  2. Remove the four shift housing bolts and the shift housing.


  1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02.
  2. If the transmission is being disassembled, drain the transmission fluid.

    NOTE: Index-mark the driveshaft to the transfer case flange. Remove and discard the driveshaft bolts.
  3. Disconnect the rear driveshaft and position it aside.
  4. Remove the transfer case, if equipped. For additional information, refer to TRANSFER CASE article.
  5. Remove the power take-off (PTO) equipment, if equipped.

  6. Using the special tool, support the transmission.
    • Securely strap the jack to the transmission.

  7. Remove the RH crossmember nuts.

  8. Remove the LH crossmember nuts.
  9. Disconnect the wire harness from the crossmember.

  10. Remove the transmission mount nuts and the crossmember.

  11. Disconnect the reverse lamp switch electrical connector.
  12. Disconnect wiring harness from the transmission.

  13. Remove the clutch slave cylinder and position it aside.
    • Push the clutch slave cylinder inward, then rotate counterclockwise 45 degrees to remove.

  14. Disconnect the transmission cooling tubes.

  15. Remove the six transmission-to-engine bolts.
  16. Remove the transmission
    • Move the transmission rearward until the input shaft is clear of the clutch, then lower from the vehicle.
