External Leaks

DIAGNOSTIC ROUTINES - EXTERNAL LEAKS

Possible Component Reference/Action
255 - ROUTINE 
Powertrain Control System 
  • INSPECT for leakage. If areas around sensor or transmission vehicle harness connector show signs of leakage, INSTALL a new sensor O-ring seal.
  • Turbine Shaft Speed (TSS)/intermediate shaft speed sensor, Output Shaft Speed (OSS) sensor, transmission vehicle harness connector
Transmission Fluid 
  • Incorrect level
  • CHECK transmission fluid level and adjust as necessary. REFER to PRELIMINARY INSPECTION  in this service information.
  • CARRY OUT the Transmission Fluid Condition Check. REFER to PRELIMINARY INSPECTION  in this service information.
  • Condition
Incorrect Line Pressures 
  • CHECK pressure at line tap. CARRY OUT Line Pressure Test. REFER to SPECIAL TESTING PROCEDURES  in this service information. FOLLOW the pressure diagnosis test as required.
  • High/low pressures
Solenoid Body Assembly 
  • Bolts not tightened to specification
  • TIGHTEN to specification.
  • Filter gasket damaged
  • INSTALL a new filter gasket.
  • Contamination
  • DISASSEMBLE and CLEAN.
  • If damaged or parts are missing, INSTALL a new solenoid body assembly. If misassembled, reassemble correctly.
  • Solenoid(s) damaged, stuck or bore damaged. Manual valve stuck or bore damaged
Fluid Pump Assembly 
  • Bolts not tightened to specification
  • TIGHTEN to specification.
  • Gasket damaged
  • INSTALL a new gasket.
  • O-ring damaged
  • INSTALL a new O-ring.
  • REPAIR as necessary.
  • Porosity
Transmission Case Assembly 
  • REPAIR as necessary.
  • Case vent damaged, case porosity
Seals/Gaskets 
  • REFER to LEAKAGE INSPECTION  in this service information. REMOVE all traces of lubricant on exposed surface of the transmission. REPAIR as necessary.
