Engine Will Not Crank

NOTE: If the battery has been disconnected or is dead, the transmission shifts and engagements will feel firm. Carry out Routine 267.
DIAGNOSTIC ROUTINES - ENGINE WILL NOT CRANK

Possible Component Reference/Action
258 - ROUTINE 
Powertrain Control System 
  • REFER to the INTRODUCTION article for diagnosis and testing of the PCM. For diagnosing TR  sensor, GO to PINPOINT TEST C . Check PIDs for TR  , PARK and NEUTRAL. REPAIR as required. CLEAR the DTCs, ROAD TEST the vehicle and CARRY OUT the OBD  test again.
  • PCM, vehicle wiring harnesses, vehicle starter transmission internal harness, Transmission Range (TR) sensor, Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) module
Engine Components 
  • Sensors, solenoids, fan clutch damages, shorted to power or ground
Vehicle Starter 
  • Starter damaged
Selector Lever Cable 
  • Cable system damaged, misaligned
TR  Sensor Assembly
  • REPAIR as necessary.
  • TR  assembly damaged
Fluid Pump Assembly 
  • REPAIR as necessary.
  • Internal parts seized
Torque Converter 
  • REPAIR as necessary.
  • Flexplate damaged
