Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor

The CKP sensor:

is a variable reluctance sensor.
on 5.4L (3V) engines is triggered by a 36-minus-1 tooth trigger wheel mounted on the crankshaft.
on 6.8L (3V) engines is triggered by a 40-minus-1 tooth trigger wheel mounted on the crankshaft.
provides base timing and crankshaft speed (rpm) to the PCM.
